Scaleway Serverless Containers
Low-traffic remote MCP server or Dockerized webhook service with predictable idle periods.
Facts
- Free allowance
- 400,000 GB-s RAM + 200,000 vCPU-s/month
- Plan limits
- Per account · scale to zero · card required; automatic overages
- Storage
- Ephemeral runtime disk, up to 24,000 MiB; no durable local storage. Scaleway Registry public images are free up to 75 GB total; private image storage and some transfer are charged separately. Persistent storage services are separate.
- Account
- Scaleway account and valid credit card for ordering resources; approximately €1 refundable authorization.
- Retention
- No fixed expiration on monthly recurring allowance. Instances can scale to zero; local data is lost when an instance stops. Long-term project inactivity policy not verified.
- Custom domain
- Scaleway-managed HTTPS endpoint. Official guide supports mapping a separately registered own domain; no free domain registration.
- Password protection
- Own MCP endpoint may use API-token authentication; that is not a site-wide visitor password. Free viewer-password feature unverified.
- Billing
- Metered pay as you go above the account monthly RAM or vCPU allowance. Card required; provisioned minimum instances consume resources. Registry/private image and optional storage costs are separate; billing alerts are notifications, not a verified hard cap.
- Execution
- HTTP-facing containers; request timeout 10 seconds to 60 minutes, up to 80 concurrent requests per instance; scales to zero after 15 minutes idle. Keep minimum scale at 0 to avoid continuously provisioned usage.
Worth knowing
Card required and automatic overages. Use min-scale 0 and account for all deployments sharing the allowance. The official MCP tutorial optionally suggests min-scale 1 and does not guarantee a $0 deployment. Public registry images can avoid private storage charges; keep secrets out of images. Local storage is ephemeral and requests have a 60-minute maximum.
